Poor Parliamentary Record from Invisible Local MP

When the Member of Parliament for Dulwich & West Norwood stood down from the Labour frontbench last year she promised to spend more time working for local residents in the constituency. Sadly however this has not materialised.

Since becoming the MP for the constituency in 1997 the Labour MP has refused to live in the constituency, instead choosing to live in Islington at first and more recently Camden. She has attended the Norwood Forum only once in ten years, and that was just before the 2010 General Election.

According to the website "theyworkforyou.com" which monitors MPs' activity, the Labour MP’s last session in parliament was less than energetic.  Her record in making only ten spoken contributions was "well below average" and she only attended 48% of the votes, also "well below average". The most recent figure for her parliamentary office expenditure amounted to a whopping £137,000.

Former Gipsy Hill Councillor Graham Pycock said “Apart from the occasional photo-opportunity residents in  Dulwich and West Norwood rarely see their MP and their MP rarely sees them. Labour are failing local residents and local taxpayers should ask themselves whether this invisible MP is really value for money”.
