Lambeth and Southwark worse for air quality in South-London

Figures released last week show that Labour-controlled Lambeth and Southwark have the worst air quality figures in South London, while areas such as Conservative Controlled Bexley and Bromley are among the best in London.

The figures show that all London Boroughs have higher levels of nitro-dioxide than the European Limits. Lambeth and Southwark are among the worst offenders in the region and the worst in South-London (which covers 12 boroughs). Lambeth is the worse of the two with air pollution 96% above the legal limit, Southwark follows on 95%.

Lambeth Conservatives Spokesman on the Environment, and former Cabinet member for the Environment for Lambeth Council Cllr Clare Whelan said “The fact that air pollution in Lambeth is 96% higher than the legal average is concerning. Both Lambeth and Southwark Councils should work with Transport for London and City Hall to get this level down. I am deeply concerned by the impact on public health if nothing is done”.
