Lambeth Libraries Bottom of the London League Again

After years of high spending and rock bottom results Lambeth Council has crashed again on the performance of its library service.  The just released figures from the Chartered Institute for Public Finance Association (CIPFA) profile, are another indictment of Lambeth Council’s library service.

Save the Rosendale Road Surgery

The Rosendale Road Surgery has treated and cared for patients in our area for more than 20 years. The building has now been sold requiring the surgery to relocate and enable this much loved and trusted Practice to continue providing NHS services locally. Our community were delighted when after many months a site was found at the Old Unigate Dairy Site in Croxted Road for a new, purpose built surgery and was given planning permission by Lambeth Council. We have now been given to understand we may lose our surgery, as NHS London has delayed funding the relocation. We are petitioning NHS London and Ministers to agree the necessary funding to ensure we retain this surgery in the heart of the community it serves.

Extra help with childcare costs is great news for parents in Dulwich and West Norwood

Chairman of Dulwich and West Norwood Conservatives Luke Tryl has welcomed a major new childcare package unveiled by the Prime Minister today which will help 400,000 families in London. The Governments’ new Tax-Free Childcare scheme will provide 20 per cent support on childcare costs up to £10,000 per year for each child via a new simple online system. Ed Miliband has effectively confirmed that if Labour are in government after the next election they will not give the British people a say on our membership of the European Union. This admission shows that the only way to get an in-out referendum on Britain’s EU membership is by electing a Conservative government. Only the Conservatives can deliver real change in Europe.

New Officer Team Elected

At the Dulwich & West Norwood Conservatives AGM, held at All Saints Church West Dulwich, members elected a new Management Committee to lead the association for the next 12 months.

Thumbs up for new P13 Bus service

Dulwich residents who regularly use the P13 bus service will now receive a better service. Councillor Lewis Robinson, a regular user of the P13 bus, raised concerns about the erratic 20 minute service last year with Transport for London (TfL), and following a survey had the backing of over a hundred Dulwich residents calling on Transport for London to improve the frequency of the popular local bus.

Conservative Alternative Budget for Lambeth Champions Local People

Since 1998 the Conservative councillors in Lambeth have produced a legal and balanced alternative budget to Labour—2014 was no exception. While accepting the administration recommendation for a council tax freeze in 2014-2015, we emphasised that this was only made possible by the subsidy from the Conservative lead Government. Cllr John Whelan, Conservative Group Leader, attacked Labour for its lack of ambition—Westminster has frozen the council tax for two years, Conservative Kensington & Chelsea is offering residents £100 cash back, and Conservative Croydon is giving paid up householders £25 cash back. Our budget stripped £100,000 from propaganda and handed back this money for consultation on controlled park zone extensions—a major issue in West Norwood.

Claimant Count Down by 22.8% in Dulwich & West Norwood

This week there has been more good economic news as more evidence emerges that the Conservatives long term economic plan is working locally as once again the claimant count in Dulwich and West Norwood has continued to fall with more people finding work.

Conservatives deliver Council Tax Freeze

The Conservative-led Government has again given Lambeth and Southwark councils an incentive grant to freeze council tax for local residents. This is the fourth year in a row that the Conservatives have allocated a Tax Freeze Grant, which amounts to over £10 million in total.  Pegging council tax for four years has saved households hundreds of pounds.

Inflation Back on Target

Figures show that inflation in the UK fell to 1.9% and is now at its lowest level in over six years. Last month inflation fell to 2%, bringing it back in target for the first time since the 2008 economic crash. This is yet another sign that the Conservatives' long term economic plan is working in turning round the economic mess left by the last Labour Government.
